In an attempt to investigate the effect of steroid on the changes of tissue mast cells during wound healing process, we made simple skin wound in dogs and then prednisolone was given intramuscularly in a dose of 20mg per day until taking the, specimen. The specimen were taken from wound area at 3 day, 5 day, 7 day, 10 day and 20 day. H & E and toluidine blue staining were made on the specimen for the light microscopic examination.
The results obtained were as follows.
1. The treatment of prednisolone remarkably depressed all process of wound healing; inflammatory response, granulation tissue formation, fibroplasia and collagen deposit.
2. There is no changes in the number of tissue mast cells during wound healing process in both non-treated- and prednisolone treated- dogs.
From these results, it may be concluded that a retardent effect of steroid on wound healing process are not concerned with changes of tissue mast cells at wound area.
